The winning basket was made by Frank Ramsey with 1:12 left, as the game featured 38 lead changes, 28 ties, and a unique final play by St. Louis' player-coach Alex Hannum.  With Boston leading by 2 points in the concluding seconds, Hannum, in his lone game of the series, planned to bounce the pass off the backboard with the hope that Pettit could tip it in.  The former part of the plan worked, but the shot rolled off the rim. ";

With an 11-game Spectrum losing streak intact, the Celtics trailed early by 15 points.  The Green and White battled back and in the final ten minutes of the game neither team led by more than 3 points.  With 52.0 seconds left, Andrew Toney made a 21-foot jump shot to pull the 76ers to within one point; he followed that shot with a steal shortly thereafter.  But as he drove to the hoop in an effort to put his team back in front, Celtics rookie Kevin McHale made the key play of the game, saving the game and the series by blocking Toney's shot and rebounding the ball. Boston won 100-98. Thousands of jubilant fans waited for the team at Logan Airport thanking them for this memorable winning series.";
